Lorenzo Bertelli

Italians love motorsport and fashion - and Bertelli has a foot in both camps. His family owns a majority holding in the Prada fashion house, so it’s no surprise his cars look stylish. A full-time role in the business leaves little time for a WRC career, so Bertelli chooses carefully when and where he competes.

The story so far

Bertelli’s career started in his native Italy in 2010. He debuted in the WRC the following season, before a full PWRC campaign in 2012, in which he scored two fifth place finishes. He tackled WRC2 in 2013, starting in a Subaru Impreza. He switched mid-season to a Ford Fiesta and new co-driver Mitia Dotta helped Bertelli to a best result of third in class at Rally Italia Sardegna. He enjoyed his best year yet in 2014, securing third in WRC2 with four podiums and a maiden win in Sardinia.A third season in WRC2 was considered for 2015, but with limited time before a looming obligation to work in Prada, Bertelli decided instead to challenge himself with a full season in a Fiesta RS World Rally Car.

Predictably, given his lack of experience, it was an eventful campaign. After five rounds he called time on his co-driving partnership with Giovanni Bernacchini. Former co-driver Lorenzo Granai was drafted in and the pair achieved notable 10th places in Finland and the season closer in Britain.

Satisfied with his improvement and progress, Bertelli returned for another World Rally Car campaign in 2016, now alongside Simone Scattolin. The season was his most successful and included a career-best eighth place in Mexico.

In 2017 he was appointed Prada’s director of marketing and communications and the WRC took a back seat.  He has competed only twice since, in Sweden and Chile in 2019, but is back in 2021 in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta World Rally Car.
