The story so far

Like many, Loubet’s motorsport career began in karting. He reached European Championship level but lack of funding ended his progression and also a brief foray into circuit racing a couple of years later.

He persevered and eventually sourced financial backing that enabled the Corsican, whose father Yves was the 1989 European rally champion and several times a WRC podium finisher with the Martini Lancia team, to take to the stages.

He started his rallying career in 2015 and second in the Junior WRC standings at his first WRC event in Portugal that year proved his talent.

Loubet went on to tackle another five Junior WRC events in 2015 and made the switch to more powerful four-wheel drive machinery the following year, in the shape of a Citroën DS3 R5. He netted four top six results in WRC2.

He campaigned a Ford Fiesta R5 in 2017, achieving a second consecutive top 10 finish in the championship. For 2018 he switched to a Hyundai i20 and showed good pace mixed with inconsistency. Three top six finishes were contrasted by three retirements.

The 2019 season proved a huge breakthrough. Back-to-back victories in Portugal and Italy at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia laid the platform for WRC2 title success and a step up to the headline World Rally Car category for a half-season in 2020.

A full 2021 campaign in a Hyundai 2C Compétition-entered i20 offered more crucial experience but was marred by mechanical dramas and crashes. He missed the final two rounds after being injured away from the stages.

After parting ways with 2C Compétition, Loubet hopes to turn the tables with a seven-round programme aboard M-Sport Ford’s hybrid-powered Puma Rally1 car in 2022.
